| 1991年にLiam Gallagherが加入した地元のバンドをOasisと改名。その後兄弟のNoelが相次いで加入し、実質的にGallagher兄弟を中心に92年からManchesterで活動を開始する。その後、93年にGlasgowのライブにたまたま居合わせたCreation
Record社長のAlan Mcguee氏が見初め、即座に契約。94年にCDシングル“Supersonic”を、8月にはファーストアルバム“Definitely
Maybe”リリースし、とんとん拍子で9月の初来日と相成った。 Beatlesを髣髴とさせるシンプルで普遍的なメロディと、メンバーのキャラクターにより、その後は英国音楽シーンで注目の的に。97年にリリースされた“Be Here Now”は全米でも2位になり世界的な人気バンドとなる。 （issei） |
